1922 peace dollar with flat silver edging around the reverse side?
I have a 1922 peace dollar with flat silver edging around the reverse side & the silver covers where it says United States of america all the way around the back edge. Anyone have any idea of what this is?
The value of this coin usually depends on whether it was made at the Philadelphia, Denver, or San Francisco mints when in better condition (grade). The mint mark, if any would be located on the back of the coin below the word ONE and to the left of the eagle's tail. The condition you describe is rated "good" for such coins, a fairly low grade. If there is no mint mark, the coin was made in Philadelphia, a D would mean Denver and an S is for San Francisco.
In the fairly low grading, it would be worth about $ 12.00, regardless of mint. The primary value of the coin is that it is made of 90 % silver. The mintage is fairly large, ranging from 17.5 million for the S, 15 million for the D, and 51.75 million for the Philadelphia. In choice uncirculated condition, the S mint coin would be worth $ 2750.00.
